I had a request the other day about doing a tutorial on staining antlers so i thought i would show some people my technique of going about this, this is just to show the basics and you can take this and do it however you want to i hope it helps!!!
First thing is to gather your materials, your antler, you potassium, various paint brushes, hot water, matte sealer, steel wool, and sandpaper!

Next mix your powder with you water, add as mush as you want, the more you add the darker the stain will be!

Here is the antler before staining!

Apply your basecoat on 1 side! Dont worry when it goes on purple, it will dry brown!

Here is the one side drying! Then apply to the other side!

Here is the antler drying!

Continue putting layers on until you have your desired color, make sure to lay more on the base and fade it out the beam, let dry dont worry, it will be pretty dull and look chalkly like the picture here!

Now take your steel wool and scrub the entire antler to remove the clakiness!

Here is the antler after steel wooling!

Now take your sandpaper and touch up all high spots and nodules on the base! the nest picture is the horn after sandpaper, but were not quite done there!

Now, heres where the horn comes to life, take your fingers and some water and rub the entire horn over to bring out the detail! It will start to look great!

Here is a picture of the horn after rubbing with you hand, almost done, and if your like me, being a complte dummy and forgetting to mask the base of the antler, you will have to touch it up with some ivory white paint!

Now take your matte sealer and seal it then your done, hope it helped Tyler!!

very nice job, one more thing you can try, just before steel wooling, take a fine artist brush or cue tip and darken the vain lines a little more,
gives it even more depth. Thanks for the picks, nice job

Will the one once in the link be enough to do a set of antlers?
