I am going to do a water splash habitat with a fish jumping for my studio. The habitat will be on the wall. What is the best method of attaching the fish to it? I can use either a reproduction or skin mount fish. should I try acrylic rods?Any info will be appreciated.

Trailsend, I use the acrylic rod's in all my "busting up" duck mount's, and they work great! I cant see using it for a fish being any different, other than the attatchment point on the fish. Good luck!

I experimented with a fish busting up out of the water, and used the acrylic rod method ( although I havn't finished it yet ) I just drilled a hole the same size as the rod through the anal vent and then mixed up 5 minute epoxy put it in the hoe, and on the rod, slid the rod in ( I had already altered most of the rod, except the 3"'s or so that went into the fish ), inverted the fish so the epoxy wouldn't run out, let it set for 10 minutes or so ( incase the 5 minute epoxy was noit 5 minute LOL ) then acttaced to my base, and I will eventually go from there. I wish I could get the darn pictures up here to show you, but I can e-mail them too you.

I use acrylic rods and attach the fish in a similar way as stated above, however before attaching the fish to the rod and the rod to the base, I heat and distort the rod quite a bit with a torch. That helps to camo the rod and get it to blend into the splash better.I do the same when displaying a jumping or flushing duck. Good luck ...JL

I also had already distorted the rod with a heat gun. I emailed picturs of what I did to Trails end, hope he got em ok. I still have to finish the rest of the splash. I need to get better with the artifical water, seems like it takes WAY too long to gel and set. Not humididity I know that much?? And I need to learn how to make smaller splashes. I have seen the technique where you push the artificale water with the air from your airbrush, and once it starts to gel and set it will leave the ripplied effect, but again it seems it takes forever for it to set, and I sit the and wait, and wait, and wait...... then boom it;s going like crazy. I have the chart for mixing amounts, and following it to a T, but?
