i was wanting to know how hard it would be to duplicate a set of antlers i found.it is a big wide 8 pointer and very tall.it was found in the woods the hole skull. it was green i scrubed it and the colar still was green finaley used some bleach cleaned up a little better. it still had no color to it. got some sumer oak stain and stained it. now its real dark . go figure!! i thought i would try to replicate it and then try to mount it .eny sugestions ?? if it wasnt such a nice rack i would not bother.thanks joe t

It cant be to difficult, as I have done it several times with great results. Go to the breakthrough index, find an article on molding antlers by Larry Bloomquist, call breakthrough & order a copy of the article. Thi is the very simple cradle method. You can also use latex for the mold material instead of the rubber larry uses. There also great articles by Erich Carter in taxidermy today. You could try them & see if they can help.

Cost using the cradle method for a 150" rack. ( I just did one ) 1 gal latex $30.

 Dont know what happened there,now 1 qt. fibrehair $10.  resin about $25.  few bucks for tube oil paint 1/2 hr. to color. Matbe $75. max. A fun project to boot.
