Hey Gang! Just want to share a few pictures with you from a good friend of ours from Murfreesboro, Tennessee Mr. Joey Arender! It was a great pleasure to share a week with Joey! Kathie and I really enjoyed the time Joey spent with us learning a few things the way we do-em at Anglers Artistry. Joey is a well rounded taxidermist and shares a great passion for the art! A great Student always makes for a good teacher when it comes to giving the information to some one who will work with it great diligence until it is learned and one day mastered! Joey meets this task head one and again I must say how fun it is to work with some one who is here to learn! Lets welcome Joey to the family!

I want to share a few pictures of Joey’s workshop and a few of the good time we all had!

Joey is learning how to break color down in to a system of painting Unwrapping a paint system is a learned skill set which Joey did very well!

Hand Painting eyes is a standard here!

Joey position his fish to the angles he wants to see the supports in to for a good look.

Working the basic body colors to create the “dead skin tone” look!

Joey adds similar colors to create depth I n the tones.

Work in the airbrush to create a surface color for the detail of the inter-scales depth.

Joey removes the darker colors to expose the depth to the scales.

Some hand painting to enhance the pre-colors to the scales!

Joey’s effort  are paying off!

I love this photo always a good taxidermist deep in study of the real teacher … reference!

Airbrushing the main body colors very soft looking!!

More airbrushing to create the inter colors of light as it would move about the fish.

Fine detail work is now being applied!

One last hard look at the reference to assure that all the aspects of the fish are covered in depth and color.

A beautiful Smallie by Mr. Joey Arender!

A good friend and Anglers Artistry family member Mountain Ed!

Joey had to stack wood before he left ( kidding) !

Joey also worked out a Walleye reproduction!!!

Reviewing his efforts of pre-coloration work!

Fine detail work!

Detailing the fin for depth!

Re grouping for the assessment that is needed to asure the colors are working with the reference!

Final touches!

A great Walleye from a great fish artist!

Joey Areander a Anglers Artistry proud family member!

WOW such kind words for a wanna be fish taxidermist  like me, Thank you.

I knew your were taking photos, but man hows your camera...LOL I have looked at my workshop cd several times and It is amazing how well things come back to memory when looking at those photos. Thank you for the time and for being a teacher. You have no ideal how much it meant not only having it shown to me but explained and taught in a way that made sense to me. It takes a real teacher to be able to do that.
You and Kathie made me feel very welcome at your home and I appreciate that a lot.

I still cant believe all that wood..Mountain Ed you got  wood chuck in your blood dont ya.  HEHEHE   Again it was good meeting ya and I will be back up that way and we'll meet again.

PS
Rick I think your right about the 35#  I added 5# while I was there. but dang it was some good eatin.
hey kathie LOL

Thanks Travis

wanted to add anyone thinking about going to ricks, just do it. You don't need me to tell you as looking at the consistant work his students do as well as the admiration they have for him should be enough.

I kept putting it off, thinking I was missing something, and that I just couldn't get it. I had accepted the fact that I would just be ok at painting a fish at best. Then I told my wife I was going to see if Rick could teach me a thing or two. Well he taught me so much my head hurt, but I wasn't over whelmed because he kept taking dang photo's. Why I didn't know until I got home and couldn't find what I need to remember in my notes...but it was in photo to remind me. .
Now that I am home, I think I just needed someone to point out to me that I needed to work differently at. I keep saying Rick teaches well...TEACHES being key folks.  Rick can pick up what you need and struggle with the most and help you get past it and show you how to improve. It takes practice... I was taught a long time ago practice don't make perfect, but perfect practice makes you good as your abilities allow.  I don't know if I will ever be great at painting fish, but you can bet your a$$ that I will be practicing to get better then I am now that I know how to practice right.

Well worth every penny I promise. It maybe cheaper to go else where and someone may be a better fit for you, but I don't know of anyone who teaches the way Rick does.

Kathie wont feed you half bad either if you like home cooked meals that is. Thanks
