RB, freeze drying is one solution if you don't want to mess with it. I personally like to do them the contemporary way. This requires a lot of work on your part though. If you have never done it before I don't think you should start off with a large one. Try to get your hands on a smaller specimen and get a feel for it.
The process in doing an alligator head mount is a bit lengthy to write down here. I would suggest you get the Breakthrough Reptile mannual. The steps for doing an alligator are explained in detail in it.
