Dorment grass.

I am building a base for a customer for his "Texas" Desert Bighorn.  Question is: He has found some grass that he wants on his base at a nusery.  The grass is alive and green.  I have only ever used dried grass on my habitats.  Can I just set the pots of grass that he buys in my shop, don't water them, and let them die, then use them?  Is there a difference in dead grass and grass that went into dorment for the winter.  I have always picked my grass in the winter while it is in dorment and just hung them for use throughout the year.  Is just letting the grass die and then using it the same thing?

get the grass, pull it out of the pot, shake the dirt off, put it in a big clump, tie a string around the base by the roots, and hang it upside down.  It will dry out in very little time.

Build in some planters in the base.   He can water them and the grass can live and stay green.

put the grass base in plaster, then submerge whit fine sand. in this way the grass dry in the right position without increspar itself...
then recolor whit airbrush
