Or Warthog Tusks to be precise....

I've just managed to remove these from one of the skulls  I am renovating and was wondering what is the best way to clean inside them?

The tusks have previously been removed and partially cleaned by the Taxidermist in RSA, but I can see a fair amount of "stuff" still inside them.

What ever method I use to clean them, I don't want to remove the brown staining on the exterior, in fact the exterior is fine as it is...

I am going to mount these tusks on a separate plaque to match another set I have as the skull was pretty badly prepared, and anyway my wife does not particularly like the full skull mount...

Once the tusks are clean, is it wise to fill them with something inert like an Epoxy of some sort?

Also I need to cover the base of each tusk in leather a) to finish them off and b) to match the other set.

The problem i am having is find leather thin enough...Any advice on how to thin down leather to a card like thickness? I will only need very small pieces so I can't imagine it being too difficult?

Regards,

Pete
