Peroxide has its place, but it doesn't have as much effect on protein as it does on iron. I don't like to make the stains harder to see before I have had time to deal with them.

Blood is typically neutral pH (diet, etc. dependent of course), hydrogen peroxide is a weak acid.  It will break down the proteins in the blood, helping to break up clots and loosen dried particles.  I never compared the ability to clean out iron vs. blood, fact is that it works - no need to impose methods by stating that something won't.

Physical vs. chemical cleaning.  Have something work for you instead of you working for it...

A combination of light scrubbing after/while soaking the area with H2O2 is a good bet!

I've been on vacation or I would have added a comment to Nance C's  response. BEFORE you add soap or detergent to your soaking bird prior to skinning (which I also often do with shot or autopsied birds), try removing the blood. From my experience, occasionally detergent can act as a mordant and set the blood into the feathers more than it would otherwise. I also have never used whink or peroxide or iron-out or any of those "newfangled" chemicals to remove blood. Plain water, and if it doesn't get it out by itself prior to skinning, after the full skin job, a soak in water with detergent usually gets the job done. Some feathers absorb the blood far too much though because of the species of bird, and in those cases blood can't be removed (Exotic aviary type birds offer more difficulty than one can imagine, especially when the vet insists on autopsy and does a poor job of it with respect of making a good skin)
