Three days, three months, three years.
That is an OLD horseman's saying.
Six weeks, six months, year and a half.
Variation of the saying used by dog breeders.
What these sayings mean is that young animals DO NOT always grow proportionately as they grow into adulthood. The time frames given are some pretty accurate generalizations of when the young animals will most likely have the proportions, or conformation, that they will show as adults.
Quite frequently, the growing animal will grow out of proportion, even to the point of looking deformed at times. Below is a photo of the same yearling buck showing hindquarter developement with the front end not keeping up.
This is a late July photo, and it would push things for his front end to catch back up by October, but it "could" happen. Most likely, this young buck was a late born from the previous year, or as it would be called in some circles, a short yearling.

Back in the old days of the old forum, when someone wanted a paint by number color schedule for the inside of a whiteatail's ear they always seemed to want to get miffed because it was always pointed out that there were a number of variables, and many of those variables would be named off.
The reason I posted the shot was because BOTH ears show in the photo, and they show two different color schemes to help make it easier to match any decor.
