I recently had an experience with a dry tanned fox.  Don't know how old the tan was and not 100% sure where it was tanned.  But after receiving it I submerged in a mild brine solution (1/4 LB salt per gallon of H2O) and within 10 - 15 min. it started falling apart like a wet paper towel.  Never had this happen to me before.  Just wondering if this is acid rot?  Or some insight to what could have caused it.

Thanks,

Sure sounds like it. This is one reason I don't like to deal with dry tanned skins from any sellers or clients unless I know them and I do know how long it's been dry tanned.
One of the reasons is after time a tanned hide looses oils and it's elasticity. This is one reason. Another is the hide was not neutralized properly.
