Sorry guy, but the problem isnt finding the blame. As the taxidermist being hired, the responsibility is with YOU. YOU are to blame. The control you need is to have things like an accurate contract in place before taking work, for example. Protect yourself, and the customer this way. You must take the time to prep your own capes for tanning, to maintain that control. DP isnt the solution. Also, customer are not permitted to pick up work unless you are there, no exceptions. I tell guys do not offer free remounts to problem customers...unless the blame is yours. Then, bite the bullet, and ask them to return the mount, so that you can remount it immediately, free of charge. Why, so that he will be pleased and bring boatloads of friends and other work? Not hardly! Hes still going to badmouth you. Its because he hired you to do a job that you failed to do correctly. Am I being harsh toward you? You better believe I am! If youre in business, be prepared to be held accountable. If the cape was iffy, tell him right away. Do the asking while hes dropping it off, youd get that 50 degree weather story then, and take the appropriate actions then, even if that meant declining the mount. Thats when you educate customers. Most of this could have been avoided, including letting him know the cape was iffy when you began the mount, at least recaping would have cost you less then, not having to remount it too. learn the valuable lessons that this seemingly poor customer has presented to you. Thats truly good advice, and honest...its just going to sting for awhile, thats all. Bobby, we have all been there bud.
