As someone who is completely new to taxidermy I have to thank you for the step by step finishing of that repro. I haven't started on any fish yet, but was wondering about something concerning that blank. At the risk of sounding uneducated (which is entirely the truth here), did that blank already have the scales darkened as in the first pic of did you have to do that youself to make them stand out more? If so, what did you use...I see a lot of pencils in that pic.

Just wondering. Great mount by the way!

Looks good Curtis,  Buddy just did a reproduction at Larry's but I think Larry had to fix it for him.  He put way to much paint on it.

Mikey, no it did not have the scale darkened. when I got it it was pure white then I had to antique it I think that is the proper term for it but if you look back at some of the other post from about four or five days ago someone had a great tutorial on doing just that. It was a smallmouth bass and a very good explanation of how and why. I did use some pencils on the back side of the fish as an experiment but still don't quite got the hang of it yet. Thank's chris you should stop by and see it because the pictures don't do it justice. I talked to cooper a week ago he said that buddy was going to try one. what kind of fish was it and do you know if it was a customers or not?

It was a large mouth and it was for his uncle or cousin.  It definitely doesn't look near as good as yours.

Curtis
What kind of repro was that. I just received a Dennis Leach rainbow trout. The scale detail sucks, and the center seam or parting line really had to be worked on. What kind of prep did you have to do. Your gills at the meeting looked great, wish I had taken mine just for a little  more competition for you. I'm going to make it down to your shop soon.

Turned out nice. I have  customer interested in a closed-mouth pose. Do you know who makes that one??? If not, somebody out there does! KLike to know the size as well.

Don't know who made it and I think it is supposed to be a thirteen pounder. I bought it off ebay. The blank it self was not a very good one I put alot of time into it before even getting to the painting stage. But for under fifty dollars turned out great.

I think it looks really good. The pictures are great. As someone new to airbrushing and painting fish, I would love to see a description of the steps you took and the paints that were applied in each of the steps you showed pictures for.
