Gloss coat on fish eye

I was wondering if you were supposed to spray the gloss coat over the eye or leave the eye protector on, the Tom Sexton fish painting manual says to remove the protector half way through the painting process just prior to a flash coat of gloss then finish painting and adding a final coat of gloss.

for super fish gloss, just spray over the eye

I gloss over the eye as well. I use Krylon Triple thick gloss from "Walmart's Taxidermy Section"

Good gloss but be paitent with it and dont put too much on at one time or it will turn a milky white , learned that the hard way ! lol
