I am going to buy a airbrush for fish. Mostly bass. What do you recommend? Also on the compressor, can I use a small portable shop type or do I need one of the small ones you see made for airbrushes?

For an airbrush, I would suggest the workhorse that is the Iwata HP-B. If you can afford it the Iwata micron series is great for detail, but after trying all the others, I would never use anything but the Iwata! As for a compressor, those little ones that come set up for airbrushes, 1/10 hp, are garbage. Buy a compressor from Home Depot or such, one that you can regulate air pressure, and slap a moisture trap on.

I'm new at the game too Josh. My girlfriend is a nailtech and she has an airbrush. I tried it for a while then went out and bought an Iwata. They are sweet! I also bought the Iwata air compressor. It is working fine for me right now but can see buying a Home Depot special. As long as you put on a moisture trap. The ones at Home Depot are cheaper too.

The first airbrush I tried was an aztek, then I read all the posts about the Iwata's, so I bought one off of ebay and I haven't used the aztek since, the one I have is the hp-b and it is great.

Just pick one that is NOT a cheapy. You do get what you pay for in the airbrush world, Iwata for me.

I have a Pascha and an Iwata.  I do all of my detail work with the Iwata and when I need to do a base coat I use the Pascha.  I have never had any luck with the Pascha for detail work.  If I had to choose just one it would definately be the Iwata.  I have used several other brands too but these are what I have now.
