in a bondo/fiberglass mold to make the positive smooth.i used a light coat of vasaline as a release but the positive is very porous and not smooth like a factory molded body.any idea what im doing wrong or is it the release im using? thanks

Try a mold release wax made for the job, Also you could have a problem with the foam, to old, picked up moisture, etc.

no it's the release agent , you can use any floor wax. apply a good coat
