Good morning from Wisconsin !

Welcome to week #4 of fish photo Friday.

This is a posting where everyone is welcome to post pictures of their recently completed work.

Skin mounts, Reproductions, Carvings,Sculptures, and Flat Art are all welcome.

Blessings to all. Smiley

These are two production skin mount brown trout we finished this week.
Both fish have a replica head. The male head was modified with an extra hump to match the natural configuration. Both fish were caught in the same body of water and are a good example of the huge range of color variations found with brown trout. Notice how the band of color on the lower third of the fish extends onto the lower area of the head and gill cover.

Nice work!

I fish White River in Arkansas a couple times a week, here the water tem[ is controled by the generation of hydroelectric power. So 54F is the normal year round temp of the water. Even the rainbows that have been out of the hatchery weeks have different colors. From Olive green to Paynes gray colorations.

I have seen browns look like a tan colored piece of buckskin to brite orange and heavily spots.

This one is a few months old. It was my entry in the Tx show, I dont have any new pics until I get my computer fixed....This fish won peoples choice, and a second place ribbon.....I had the pleasure of speaking with the judge, Kenneth Bauman. As soon as I finished talking to him I felt like I could paint it 10x better. Isnt that always the case.lol Thanks for the pointers Mr. Bauman!

Awesome pattern on that smallie of yours fish man! John C. your a lucky dawg to fish that river so often. I understand that the best time of year is coming up. Not as many tourists during winter, and the shad begin to die. Ive heard that monster browns and rainbows stack up thick under those dams waiting for the lethargic or dead shad to drift by! I hope we are gonna get some pictures from you before its all said and done! lucky dawg Wink

We are starting to pickup a few spawner rainbows and small brown, but those big browns are nig because they are a bit smarter. I did find a school of nice browns 4-8 lbs range last week, shy on the biting though. Rainbows are doing better now than during the summer. Three of us went Sunday and had three nice stringers all fish were between 2-3lbs. Plus turned a bunch of smaller bows, throats and browns.

I sure have been enjoying the pictures of everyone's work over the last several weeks, and if I was a wealthy man I would have my house filled with examples of everyone's work in it just for me to spend some of my time every day browsing and enjoying in person!  Wink

Well, here is a Steelhead I just finished up yesterday.  There is nothing really special or unique about this project other than it is a typical representation of a fish caught by and contracted by one of my clients, so since it is special to them it is special to me.  The original project started off as a pedestal skin mount (with cast fins and head) that I then molded so I could have additional copies of the fish.  This picture is of a finished cast from that mold.  It is 36.25" long with a 20.25 girth, and it weighed a little heavier than the formula suggests at a little over 20 pounds (which is an average Steelhead that I see in my shop).  You are looking at the back side of an S-curve or in proper vernacular a Reverse S-Curve.  Both sides are good as per its pedestal skin mount donor, with no molding distortion from dead musculature.  The painting consists of airbrushing layered with hand painting.  I also attached a close-up (about 1.5X size) of the flank area right behind the gill cover for better inspection.  The fish is attached to a wall hung habitat on a fiberglass rock structure with natural gravel and driftwood.

Hey Greg!

Thanks again for a fun post were we as fish heads get to look at all the cool eye candy!!!

Here is a Big Skin mounted King For a great customer! Hey John!

I have to put in a shamless plug for UFD ( Mr. Dave Campbell ) I use Dave's fish repros personally and as a student staple when teaching because they are very good tomsay the very least but are anatomically fantastic. I know I don't have to say a word about0ut Dave's fish but I really think if you haven't give them a try you will find that you won't be disappointed. There are so many great companies doing repros today and I don't want to in any way take away for the outstanding work that the others are doing I just wanted to say a few words as Dave is a really humble guy with lots of talent. OK enough of the shameless plugging! Again thank you Greg for this cool sting you have created for us!

My Best
Rick Krane
