Several of our clients have successfully hunted with Mike Rittle 602-430-4517 and Randy Cooper 928-925-6336 both professional outfitters (My brother-in-law from Ohio was 60 when he got his lion with Rittle and you're a whippersnapper compared to him...LOL) Jan- Feb- March are the best times to be lion hunting here! I know you want to get a lion but that time of year (Jan thru Feb.) is also javelina season (Jan.-archery Feb.-handgun and rifle) The whole area surrounding Tuscon is great javelina hunting area and although you have missed the draw, you can purchase an over the counter leftover tag. That unit is so large there are usually a bit of tags available. Mostly archery tags and a few rifle (how it's been in the past). We are traditional archers and enjoy stalking them with a bow. Just another option for something to do after you get your lion
. You just may happen upon a bobcat as we have done from time to time.
Bring your shotgun and have a go at our quail in January.
Check out the SCI museum just a few miles Northwest of Tucson and the Sonora Desert wildlife sanctuary just west of the SCI museum. There is an ostrich farm about 1/2 hour North of Tucson open to the public. A little further south of Tucson in Patagonia there is a Nature Conservancy there that is a great way to spend the day hiking around. Abundant in wildlife and good photo opportunities. If you like birding it's an avian haven. Check out the house before the entrance to the property. It is privately owned but they have their backyard butted up to the conservancy and have oodles of hummingbird feeder out with a great covered seating areas for birders. I am an Audubon birder and added many hummers to my life list there. Have seen as many as 8 different hummers there.
