Just came back to work, and noticed a small whitetail fawn with spots still on it walking through the woods. Has anyone seen a spotted fawn this late in the year? I live in SE Pa. and never seen one this late in the year. Just wondering? When was this deer bred sometime around April?

Shot one bowhunting in late dec one time w/ spots, they were fading, but still fairly easy to see. (couldn't see them when I shot, but noticed them when I went to retrive her.)

DNR guys I know have seen some pretty new fawns running around in Oct. I had one born at my place by one of my does  in mid August. She was a  first time mother. A guy down the road from me had one of his does have one born in mid September. It is usually from a first time mother that came in heat late.

Dean, will these late bloomers always be late as coming into heat or a buck holding antlers longer? I have always thought about this when I saw a buck with his rack in May from the season before.

My doe had a late fawn the first year and had the fawns in May ever since. I think  it had partially to do with a young buck also. It is usually first year mothers that may have a late born fawn. Even most of them have the fawns at a normal time. In the wild it probably has more to do with the buck to doe ratio. If there are to many does the bucks can't get them all the first time or two in heet. Hunting pressure can also play some part in it , but mainly the ratio.
