Hello again.  Here is the question...should I go to turkey class to learn how to mount a turkey or would I get enough out of a bird class to mount a turkey.

I do know that going to a turkey class is really what you should go to to learn how to mount a turkey.  But...I'm looking at the money and time off that it takes to go to both classes.  So if it's not worth it to go to a specific turkey class I will just go to the bird class and save the money and time.

Your feed back on this will be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Ranger, turkeys are in a class all to themselves. Mounting one is a much bigger task than you think. Here is my suggestion take a bird class to get started mount several birds to start with to get familiar with the time and effort that it takes to make one look alive. Then try a turkey  for practice one that is not to important but a practice birdjust to see how it turns out. You can never stop learning new tricks to make you a better taxidermist and the advice you get on this forum is some of the best you can get.

get yourself the breakthrough magazines that have cally morris articles in them about mounting a turkey then go get yourself a turkey and start, you don't need to pay high pricesto get started in thisthe materials and equipment are pricey enough to get started, buy a couple of tapes if you want too, adnd you can watch them over and over, then go to a convention and sit in on some of the  mounting seminars. good luck

Mounting a turkey requires different techniques than other birds.  Wegners School of Taxidermy offers a turkey class.  The school is located in Milton Wisconsin and will be most likely one on one training.  For more info call Ron at 608-868-4022 or visit the web site at www.wegnersschooloftaxiderny.com

Catch your next state show and look at their seminar line up.  Turkey seminars are popular at conventions.  If you work on regular birds for a while and then go to a turkey seminar that would probably get you started.  Of course a one on one class would be the best.
