OK Guys and Gals. I would like to here your prices on strictly tanning a bear hide. What do you guys charge per foot or sq foot? I have a customer who keeps coming back every year strictly to have them dry tanned and I feel I am being taken advantage of so its time for a new price list for 08'. I appreciate everyones input.

Well so does mine, I was just wondering YOUR mark-up value? I am trying to compare what the average is. I know I am losing $$ for my time compared to what I would make mounting a deer for the day. If it were me I would probably charge equal to my rug cost, but that is not realistic.

I guess my whole point is I COULD have done something FUN today, like mount an animal. Instead I had to provide a service that is not fun, and is back breaking work to me.....so I question why I even bother providing that service when I never get to mount anything?Huh I guess the icing on the cake is when I find out my skull cleaning is now too "costly" so that "service" got dropped...

Cost of salt,  tanning with shipping both ways and than at least double that figure ! Depends on how fast you can prep and salt a bear.
Prepping bears isnt fun ? Shocked

Fishslayer you best not tell me you love to do them. I just spent an hour cleanup from fat off that bear I did! LMAO.

I am on year 3 with his bears and it is always strictly dry tan the bears. That gets old after awhile, and I wonder where the bears go to?Huh??

Thanks for everyones price. I am close to it, but think I am going to go higher to get out of the bear tanning industry....at least from this client! LOL

Tanning only is three times the price that the tanner charges me.  If your tanner is charging $2 an inch then you charge $6 an inch or $72  per foot.

Sandy, I wouldnt say they are my favorite thing in the world to spend my time doing but---they are good money for what you have to do.
I dont know what you are doing, but I rarely spend more than an hour and a half on one.
