Montana Bull Trout Reproduction

WWW
« on: November 03, 2006, 06:35:50 AM »

Hello fellow Taxidermists!

Welcome to week #5 of Fish Photo Friday !

This is a posting where you can post pictures of fish or fish related creations that you have been working on.

Here are some photos of a product we are developing for a client in the educational market.
It is a collection of half cast reproduced speciemens that are poured directly into the back panel. The piece is then airbrushed .
It will be utilized in  classrooms as an aid in fish identification .

Since I neglected to post last week, I am putting up two this week Wink

First is a Kenai River AK Spawning Male King Salmon.
The red coloration is something that I was totally unfamiliar with as the Great Lakes fish that I catch are all Greenish.
(Look Ma...no tippings! LOL!  Tongue)

Second is just another male Brown Trout.
Coloration is to represent a specimen from a lake in Alberta, Canada.

Great work guys! Really like seeing your work every Friday!
This is a 33” Summer flounder (dark phase) I just finished this week. Not too sure where the blank came from, because it was a “ re-paint”. It took me about 3 weeks to finish him up. The mount was a mess, and needed lots of body work, new eyes, and a new mouth with plenty of  teeth. The large teeth are made from Aves Apoxie, and the smaller teeth are made from Epo-grip.  First time using that  Epo-Grip , and I was very pleased with the results.

Here's my contribution for this week.  Nothing special other than it's the first crappie I've painted in over twentyfive years.  First time I used the half cast method also.  Required rebuilding missing fin parts on tail, dorsal and anal fins.

I think once someone mentioned also adding carved fish.  The following is a Stylized base and fish I am about done with.  At least I am going to try attaching it.

Here’s a 17” Rainbow Trout.  Nothing special, But it’s my first in the Palomino coloration.
Blank came from Dennis Arp - Wasoc’s  item # GM-R155
And once again, I used Epo-grip and a tooth pick to make the teeth.

The base for the fish is Mesquite, I guess you would call it a burl.  It is beautiful wood, unbelievable grain in it.  The fish itself is West Texas Juniper and it also has a great grain although the picture does not show it to much.  I will attach another picture to this message that will show the natural grain.  The grain is natural with only Danish Oil being added so far to the fish and the base. Will be putting some wax on it yet.

Taxi-lover:
I have never really timed myself... but I would say that if I was free of distractions, I could paint and tip an average sized Brown in about 8 hrs.
