Is this really a necessary step?  I do my own tanning and never have a problem with stretch or anything like that.  the capes turn out great and easy to work with when mounting and i never oil them.  I use to work at a tannery where we would add a bit of oil to the tanning bath itself but never directly oiled wet tanned skins and the capes were the nicest ive worked with out of any tannery i've tried.

if you are happy with your results you dont need anybody elses permission to make you happy  - do it without oiling

i dont oil any kt hides - they are wet tanned
