This is my first year taking customers; can anyone tell me if I am required to charge Ohio sales tax on my work? Obviously I will be paying tax on the income at the end of the year but what about actual sales taxes? In case it may matter, I am not a full time taxidermist.

To perform taxidermy in Ohio you must have a vendor's license.  Even if you only make ONE PENNY on your business.  It requires you to charge sales tax.  It also allows you to be tax exempt on many supplies you might need.  There will be people who will tell you you don't need it.  THIS IS FALSE!  Though Ohio does not require a "taxidermy license" you do have to have the vendor's license.  Any work you do must be charged sales tax.  Go to your county courthouse and you should be able to get all the info and the license.   It only takes a few minutes.  I believe the cost is $25.  Much better than having all your work taken and being fined thousands of dollars.  You will be asked what "category" your business is.  I chose "miscellaneous equipment and supplies" that covers it all.

Also may I invite you to join the OHIO TAXIDERMISTS ASSOCIATION.  This will be the first year of a NEW UNITED association.  You will knock ten years off your learning curve at the convention.  March 30, 31, April 1st.  The link at the bottom of my post will give you more info.  PM your name and address and I will make sure you get a flier.
