I made a pine branch for a black bear over the summer.  PVC pipe, latex mold, bondo, and paint.  It did take some time to make but it looked great... the customer didn't know that it wasn't real until they picked the mount up to go out the door.  Just make a latex mold of the type of bark the you want to use.  Heat and bend the pipe in the shape that you need.  Mix up bondo and spend into the bark mold (let the bondo just start to gel) and rap around the pipe.  Hold or tape the mold down until the bondo hardens up.  Then fill any voids with more bondo and texture.  Paint to match the real bark and you are done.  Also you never have to worry about bugs getting into it.  If you need pics I can email them to you.
