I was shaving a deer cape tonight and all the sudden the light started to blink on and off, and the flesher started to stop. (their cords share the same electrical outlet) Then the fleshing machine just died. I felt the motor, it was really hot. I wonder if it just got over heated. I tried plugging it back in, and plugging it into a different power outlet. But it won't turn on anymore. Can anybody offer some advise? Any help would be appreciated. It is a Dakota 5.

My guess would be that the motor would have to be repaced with a new one.  The motors on the fleshers should be able to take anything that you could throw at it without locking up. Huh

I really hope I don't have to replace the motor. I don't have any money for stuff like that as it is. Do you think it will run again if I let it cool and don't use it again until tomorrow?

Did the motor lock up and quit moving when you turned it off, or was it still under power and moving.

Hi Nina,

Sorry to hear about your flesher. Did you purchase it from Van Dykes? If so, call and tell them about the problem.

I was having electrical problems with my Dakota IV. It didn't stop working, but I was having issues with getting "shocked". My outlet was grounded but when the flesher was running, if I put my hands on the table I would feel a small pulse of electricity thoughout me. Thinking it was the motor possibly shorting out, I called Van Dykes and they sent me a brand new one for no charge. Haven't had a problem since.. it wouldn't hurt for you to call them

Did you check to see if the circit breaker wasn't tripped .Plug something else in and see if it works. also i had a table saw stop working on me and it was because saw dust was built up around the switch and shorted it out. once i blew it off with the compressor it was fine. you might want to check that also.

After the machine cools down you could unplug and take it apart where the cord goes into the machine to see if anything is fried.  You might have to take it to someone that fixes that kind of motor to see what they think.  If everthing looks good you could try to blow it out if it is dirty, other wise hopefully it will start back up for you after it cools down.  Good luck.

Do other devices work in those outlets?  Could it be you threw a breaker?  Were there other things running on the same circuit?  You may want to consider a dedicated circuit for the flesher.

Just a thought.

I plugged other things into the power outlet, like a fan and a lamp, and they work. It's just the flesher that doesn't work. My dad is going to look at it for me soon. thanks for the help, i'll keep everyone updated

No prob...just wanted to rule the circuit overload factor out!   Wink

As previously suggested, call VanDykes customer service and see what they can do for you.

Good luck, and yes, please keep us updated!   Smiley

I let the flesher cool down for a bit, and then tried plugging it back in again. I pushed the reset button and it started right back up with no problems. Thanks for the help guys. Smiley
