Wow, Cecil!  Forget the picture of George Bush.  That picture of you guys is a classic!

Thanks Jan. I can't believe that picture was taken 16 years ago!

It will all be worth it if they take our advice and come back later with an improved mount. When I critique someones work I always try to find something I like about it before I level the bad news. You have to admit though, the photos make it a lot easier to put things in perspective!

The problem arises when you give an opinion that is not asked for.  IMHO the only other situation where a critique should be given is when it's being judged in a competiton. Other than that you are asking for hurt feelings, bruised egos, and an all out brawl.

And past history has show there are folks here that just like to bash other people's mounts just to be mean. Some of the worst of those bashers never post their own work. Hint, hint.

Cecil, you're RIGHT!  I HAVEN'T seen any of YOUR work on here.  What's the deal and since when did you play nice with anyone's work?  I recall some pretty disparaging remarks about Paul Borkowski's work and how you challenged him that fell through.  Maybe you'd better clarify your remarks.

Lee, I fear thou protests too loudly.  I snicker when people tell me how beautiful Picasso's work is, or when they tell me how lovely the voice of Bob Dylan is.  I even snicker when they tell me that I sure got fat and ugly quicker than most people my age.  I never saw you defend me when those things were being said, so why the sudden disdain.  Putting an average or below average mount in front of a professional backdrop won't make the cover of Breakthrough.  Does anyone tell Larry Blomquist that as an equal opportunity he should have shots of average or below average work gracing his magazine?    DAMN RIGHT I was a beginner who did crappy work.  I STILL DO CRAPPY WORK, but I have enough objectivity in its quality not to impose it on others so they can snicker at it with me.  It's truly amazing the number of people who are easily offended by the truth.  Contrary to what Cecil implies, I've NEVER given a vengeful critique of any picture sent to me.  I just don't have rose colored glasses and those of you who do aren't doing any justice by painting a picture where none is deserved.  But then again, that's just what I expect from parents who have ugly babies.

George,a lot of people post their work to show it off.If they ask for opinions it should be considered fair game.If not , you are certainly free to snicker. However, snickering in public could give you bad karma.Just because you like to brag about how crappy your work is doesn't mean you can snicker without consequences.

George,

I've posted pics on here from the get go before you even showed up and ever since. You know better.

And as usual your memory is not quite accurate regarding Paul. Paul challenged me. The work I made fun of was not posted on the taxidermynet either. (You do remember we couldn't post pics on the previous site?)  And it was a rework of someone else's mount he was selling on ebay. I do regret my comments but after he challenged me to compete against him at the world show, someone sent me a pic of that mount and represented it has his work. It wasn't anything to write home about, but like I said, he did the best he could with a rework and was just trying to sell it. Very good considering what he had to work with and Paul is an excellent taxidermist.

George please don't preach to me about cutting others down. You are the master. And you have the proud distinction of being the first here to stir things up. I hope you're proud of yourself.

Why thank you, Cecil.  I'm gratified that you would give me such a compliment like that.  But you know, saying you're sorry doesn't erase the transgression.  And the only person I'm known for beating up on is you which gives me satisfaction and proves enjoyable to most here anyway.   And this just goes back to what I told Kim some time back.  "If the truth offends you, by all means you should avoid it where possible."  I've made a GENERALIZED statement that not one person on here has not thought at one time or another. (I'll apologize personally to the first 10 people who tell me they've NEVER has such thoughts.)  How am I the villian for saying what all of you've thought?

Sometimes it's best to keep your mouth shut. It saves you a lot of grief later. Been there done that.

Nice mount Bruce. Keep up the good work.   Grin

I agree.  If you want an honest opinion, that's what you should get.  If you want to feel good about yourself, take your work to your mama's house and let her see it and she will tell you how wonderful it is.

Some of the work put up on here by long time taxidermists is quite poor. All they are looking for is to have their ego's stroked. The problem is no one has he guts to tell them the truth.
I personally will not say a word. If they think their work is great , then it is. To each his own.
