i have a client that is planning a spring snow goose hunt.
what is the best way to have him prep them because id rather him not overnight ship them to me frozen whole.

Sounds to me like you really don't want them in your shop.
In the spring ,those geese won't last long if they are not frozen and shipped at the least 2nd day air to you.
I don't take the chance in the winter months on not having something sent frozen 2nd day air to me.
I'd hate to have to explain to a customer that his trophy birds were mush and they can't be mounted.
Not trying to sound harsh,just stating my feelings on your question.

have him make a small clean straight incision with a razor blade from bottom of keel to vent and open up and remove guts then pack some borax in there .and rub on any blood soaked feathers,then freeze and ship.experienced several of these spring birds also fall birds shipped a long way and they keep quite well the only problems I've had is slippage in the stommach to vent area. by removing entrails and boraxing you prevent this.and remove a little weight,a little borax in mouth down throat also helps.
