So with out further ado lets get week #18 under way.

I want to start the week with a good friend and contributor to the fish section. Mr. Travis Jones of Sea Board North Carolina!  Travis is quite a motivated gentleman and has been busy since his workshop with my family in the Granite State. Travis has been hard at work trying to gather up some good reference on one of the coolest of the Esox. Esox americanus vermiculatus also known as the Red Fin Grass Pickerel. This week Travis was so kind as to share with us some of his recent work! Travis used the cast of a Ron Reynolds of this 11" inch Redfin! Super work Travis!!!!

Here are a few fish that I mounted and finished on Tuesday.  I realize I'm probably the only guy out there that will start and finish  a fish in the same day, but I find that I just work better that way.  Anyways, I think they look allright.

MT... Nice looking mount. And just like that saying about it takes all kinds? Well, we have you at one end of the spectrum and Joe Competition at the other end, with 40 or 50 hours in a single fish.

Travis... Cool looking fish. And I love the photo angle. Also, kinda neat to see an Esox mount with a closed mount as a change of pace.

Hmmm.... Could it be an Esox theme this week??? LOL  Cheesy

Bummer. The one pike I have left to do is still weeks out. If I kick it in gear this weekend I MIGHT have a king done in time to share.

Very good start this week.  I just got my "oldschool Arp Repro Bass"  done, will post pictures tomarrow.   Great looking fish.  I have never seen a Pickerel in person!  Very nice looking mount.  I too find the closed mouth versons more visually pleasing.  Don't know why, just do!!!

M.T.  all I can say is if you can do what you do, in the time that you say you do, okeydokey.  Love the extreme poses on the perch....... lol.  Very nice.

Looking foreward to seeing how this week progresses!

Jimmy.

Here you go Jimmy

Find a shallow quiet backwater and fish as close to shore as you can, I use a half a night crawler. they dont seem to care as much as other pike. the only get to be about 9" or so on average. A 12" is a trophy!

we do have them here, actually in your neck of the woods.
They are common in the Lower fox river drainage as well as the Mississippi river drainage areas.

Here is one of the BEST Wisconsin fish books, and it was just put online! you need to download a viewing program for it but its free and easy.
A great book if you are like me and enjoy hunting the oddball fish.

The trick is finding them. Think shallow.
If you find Orangespotted sunfish, Warmouth and Top minnows you are in the right spot. look for flooded vegetation along the shore.
the Redfin Pickerel is actually a subspecies of the Grass Pickerel

M.T., Mr. Quick! LOL!! Looks good.....

JUSTFISH, I like the colors on your smallie....

Terry to stay with your theme on "Esox" week.....here's a 37" skin mount, slight "S" curve.
