carolina fur dressing ?
«
on:

got about 20 deer to do and been thinking bout sending hides out to carolina fur dressing. I've done all my deer in the past with krowtann but with my work schedule I just can't seem to get alot done in my sparetime. Just wondering exactly how far does carolina fur dressing go with the hide?1 Is it ready to mount when its returned or does it still need some thinning before I mount!? Thanks

Is there a tannery that sends them back ready to mount? I`ve used a few and they all need thinning to some degree, lips, chin, eyes, nose, ears, and seams.

WEll, not exactly. They are a FUR DRESSER. If you send the deer there with the lips simply split and not thinned, you're going to get them back the same way. Didn't remove the eyebrows, didn't get the nose cartilage out, that's what you get back. The hide and face will be shaved, but the detail work is still going to have to be done by YOU. There's no way ANY TANNERY is going to take that kind of time on a hide.

I agree with you George if tannerys did capes detailed ready to mount that would be just one more thing to add to the list as to things the tannery gets blamed fore and besides after detailing a few capes that that you get back you should learn real quick if your doing you prep work good enough or not.

Not so fast George. I use Carolina for about 80% of my work. I do not thin the lips, just split them to the edge sot the salt can get to the hide. Also I do not take much time on the nose, just split the nose, do a minor bit of fleshing on the pad and around the glands. I do not take the cartilage out of the nose. When I get them back the lips are thinned very well and the nose is also thinned quite well. Yes I do need to do a bit more prep on the lips and nose to get it just right , but they do work these areas over quite well, better than any tannery I have ever used.
As for the original question, go for it, send them to Carolina they do a great job, the best I have ever used and I have been sending capes out to various tannery's for 30 years.

Not so fast yourself, Randy. The guy stated, "Is it ready to mount " to which I replied NO. You don't have to sell me on Carolina as I love their service and their product. But I have yet to get one back "ready to mount".

George, George, George. I very much realize that a tanned cape is not ready to mount when it comes back form the tannery and I did not say they did.. But when you say if you don't thin the lips and and don't get the nose cartage out, that is what you get back? Not with my capes. They do thin the lips and nose and do it much better than other tannery's. But since your George maybe they don't do that to your capes. Carolina fur must like me more???

LMAO Randy, they probably do like you more. In all truthfulness, I guess I can't know ALL that they'd do because when I send them a hide, the nose, lips, and eyebrows have already been taken care of.
