i mounted a elk about three years ago. it has been in my basement the whole time. today i noticed a split in the hide. as i looked closer, the whole hide is splitting. the worse is from about eight inches below the ear, travels under the neck almost fourteen inches long. there are lesser splits, but they are all over this elk it was tanned in a auto tanner, and mounted right after. there is no odor. these are splits that are gapped open a good inch. any thoughts.
