What size base?

I am going to do a multi-bird pheasant scene and was wondering how big to go on an octaganal base?  My habitat scene will be snow with a short fence post that one of the birds will be perched on.  The other will be sitting in the snow below.  I'v never used one of these bases and just wanted some opinions.  Thanks.

i have a unfinished 23 inch cedar ocatgone sitting here that looks like you would have plenty of room on it.  50.00 plus shipping.  all stained and finished.

I have a butternut oval that will make a great base I have all sizes  but if its a octagon base you need then what are you waiting for BUY ANDREW'S for $50
