just wanted to share something useful for some of you taxidermists.....a local taxidermist where i live advertises trading gloves for hides...gets a few hundred mulie, rocky mountain elk, roosevelt elk, and antelope hides from hunters every year. i think his gloves are deer or elk, but to sacrifice a few hides for the gloves in exchange for all the free hides sounds like quite a steal to me!

just thought this info might be of use...

Cody,

I am the Taxidermist you mentioned. It's not all cracked up to what you think. Actually I have 650 deer and 250 elk hides, and when I sell the hides to the tannery, and pay for the gloves , labor and salt. There isn't much left. However it gets a lot of people through the door.  Tim

& in some cases it is a waist of time.

I tried doing this & by the time I paid for the gloves & hauled the hides up to the drop off site, ( Tims ), we made a whole wopping $50.
Then I had hides laying arround taking up room , & we almost got NO purchase capes because everyone wanted a $10. pair of gloves instead of $ 40. I usualy pay in cash.

Since then I have just thrown out the hides people have been dropping off rather than screwing with them.
