I have a flying pheasant and was thinking about mounting it on a fence post but I wasn't sure on how to mount the poast to the wall and possibly add some wheat around the base of the post.  Any suggestions or pictures of similar mounts would be appreciated.

I like that mount, I like that idea but wonder what a flying pheasant would look like on that post?

Could you mount the bird so that it was flying over the post or along side it?  That would give you an attachment point as well, a rod thru some grass or tule or something?  And I can't see why you couldn't just make a wall mounted base for it.

Here are a few pics of how I do flying pheasants with fence posts..
I use a small wood base with the post screwed towards the back so you can get a hook on the post for hanging and use some 2 part foam, dirt, grass or whatever else you want.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck,
Jeff

I have a fence post with a flat back it will mount directly to the wall  I also have some fences made up. And if you need old barb wire I have that to along with old barn boards.    Bud

I have done several of these with standing birds. You could modify this to go on the wall. I use a plywood base, pour foam over that, then glue dirt over it, and then drill holes and glue in the grass.

Geez, that's a terrible picture but it probably looked that bad anyway.  That was done in 1996 and the bird is roosted on a post with a NO HUNTING sign.  The board edge of the sign made a great perch for both feet.

OOPS!  That hyperlink won't work. It goes to 2006.  Go to the WASCO awards, click on 1996 and then scroll down to my name and click on the Ringneck Pheasant.  You'll see how bad it looks.

You can pick up rough cedar posts from menards, the kind that are used for rustic fences. You can pick through them and usually find something that will work quite well.

Here is the finished product.  Pretty simple.  Sorry about the mud and tape job in the background.
