Yes but it'll take more time. The bacteria may die off on you too if you don't open it every now and then. Most plastic containers do let some air into the container. I have containers with lids on them but they are clear to let the UV rays penetrate. This seems to speed up the process. I also open them up every few days as well to check up on the skull/skeleton. Smiley

Here's a tip - put a little Rid X  in it. The stuff you put septic tanks, it is filled with bacteria. Hope it helps.
