Tip for Improving Driftwood Bases

For those of you that use the Texas cedar driftwood for bases for your mounts, especially birds, my wife came up with a quick and very easy way to give them a beautiful waxed look finish. What we do is clean it first with a steel brush, then apply a thin coat of the matte finish Mod Podge to it with a soft 1" to 2" paint brush. It dries quickly, won't peel, and gives the wood a great looking satin finish which really dresses up the mount. You can get Mod Podge in the craft section at Wal Mart or at stores like Hobby Lobby. One other important tip: be sure and rinse your brush completely with preferably hot water or the Mod Podge will set up and ruin it.
