I didn't get a response in the bird section so I thought I would move it up here....

Guys,,,,I have just mounted a pen raised mallard (I don't have pics yet), but man!!!.....are the wings always in that bad of shape?  To be honest, that's all I mainly have experience with being new....  Are wild birds any better?

yes pen raised birds are usually rough, but on the same token, wild birds can be shot all to hell sometimes to, its a crap shoot, i have gotten nice pen raised birds in the past as well, the younger the bird the better it has seemed to be for pen raised.

Thx....

are there any tricks beyond an act of God to make these look better?  I've used a hair dryer, etc to get the rough out of the wings.
