I just discovered a new dryer idea to use as a tumbler i will have to take pictures for yall so far what i have done was i took the actul round drum out of the dryer, going to weld two flat pieces of meteal to cover the hole side and the open side, and then just add a door on top add some steel rods some bushings  a pully a motor and belt and presto got me a tumbler

The flesher looks great! The only thing I would do is make my speed variable. Cut the power cord and add a dimmer switch to the black wire. Optimum fleshing speed is 1000 to 1200 RPM. I did this to mine and solved a lot of problems. I can now flesh woodies slow, or speed up for turkeys.

The dimmer switch sounds like a great Idea I will give it a try , I also plan on putting a flexable light over the top..Rick

In this picture, the flesher on the left is a Softtouch purchased from WASCO quite a few years ago and the one on the right I made with a 1/3hp blower motor from Grainger (part # 3LU79 - $89)...the housing is the bottom of a plastic 55 gallon drum...the base plate is a disk plate from a farmers disk plow...and the stand is two pieces of square tubing where one can slide into the other for height adjustment...Total cost is @ $125.

1700 is def not too slow mine is only 1400 rpm and works great. the faster the motor the easier it is to do damage imo. but i have a question myself why are the commercial ones and most of yours have the wheel turned sideways i put a wire wheel on a furnace motor and run the skin from the side of the wheel that is rotating downward not sideways like the others? i think it works better and wanted to see why you guys like the other way

 Now thats an awsome machine. Have you tried it with the new variable speed yet? Throw some brushing lacquer on that wood, let it dry, then get to work. Good luck!

The uses for the lighter fluid are:

a. get mad and throw it in the trash and burn it up.
b.relax after a day of skinning
c. duck breasts over a open fire
d. all of the above.
