Swing like no one is watching...lol

« on: March 25, 2008, 12:09:45 AM »

I believe we've all seen the Dirty Jobs episode where Mike spent time with the skull cleaners...the size of that whale skull about blew my mind!  Anyway...while that was dirty...it didn't show case many of the other aspects of taxidermy.  I also remember the one where he made fiberglass molds of sharks & fish...but a fiberglass mold is A LOT different than doing a skin mount of a trout!  So...here's an idea.  Nominate YOURSELF, or encourage someone you know to nominate themselves, to be in an episode of Dirty Jobs!

If you aren't a member of the Discovery channel fansite, become one and  once you're logged in, click here:  http://community.discovery.com/eve/ubb.x/a/cfrm/f/5141981108

Then in that page click on 'Suggest the job' tab.

Then the "New" folder...with 'Discussion' or 'Poll' popping down underneath it.

Click Discussion.

That'll pop up a new window titled 'Post a Topic'...now be as specific as you possibly can...those who have watched Dirty Jobs...you KNOW how Mike's sense of humor can get a toe close to crossing the line of appropriate, but if you don't have a "dirty" mind, you don't get the joke?  Tell them what you want to do with Mike...fleshing beavers...or deer...fish or birds...whatever you usually do in your business...send it to them!  I love Dirty Jobs.  I love taxidermy.  I REALLY love seeing the two of them together!

So COME ON!!  Step it up & come have Mike be a part of your dirty job!  Grin

Lisa be careful Michael P just might nominate you for this.

This could be his twisted way of getting even.

Threaten me with pleasure Jerry...I'd welcome a visit from Mike Rowe...I could watch that man flesh a beaver and not even bat an eye.  Grin  I'd even let him use my fleshing beam & power washer.  Wink  Cheesy  Seriously though, I wouldn't accept the invitation.  I'm not good enough yet to represent this industry in all it's glory.  But those of you who are...PLEASE go to the discovery site & get it done!

Thanks for writing this up Lisa. I had the idea but you fleshed out the words better than I could, Thanks.

Please nominate someone you think would best represent the industry on TV.

Yep, I couldn't have written this up without Riverdale...I couldn't see past the Mike Rowe faces on the website to figure out which link led to suggesting an idea for Dirty Jobs.  River helped with that in addition to suggesting the idea in the first place...so if ANYONE deserves to have Mike Rowe come out & help with fleshing anything, it's Riverdale IMHO.  Grin

Seriously though folks...go to the site...do it.  If you've nominated yourself, (I think that's how it works, otherwise they'd spend time trying to convince folks that don't want to be on the show) please come back here & let us know!  If a forum member thinks you'd do a great job, they can go to the discovery site & 2nd or 3rd the suggestion!

Last night images of the Dirty Jobs done in the tannery danced in my head.  That machine they had that calculated the square inches of a hide?  Now that tool was AwEsOmE!  So many of the others too!  Their tanners were Goliaths in comparison to my little tanner.  Wink  I had tool envy!!  Grin  Cheesy

Anyway...go to the site & nominate yourself!  Please?!?  It'd be great to see more facets of taxidermy represented on the show!

It never turns out as you would have suspected. We would still be compared to Norman Bates somehow. I promise you'd look like a nasty fool when the producers got finished.

If you saw the episode at Skulls Unlimited you may change your mind. I thought it was very well done.

Rick, do you watch Dirty Jobs?  Did you see an episode where the person showing Mike how to do the job looks like a psycho?  It'd make me sad if the producers did that.

That I've seen, they don't make folks look like idiots.  They look like normal people who work hard, enjoy thier jobs and sometimes get very dirty.  Sounds very much like my job.  Smiley  They've done 100's of different jobs.  I've loved every episode I've seen.  Smiley

They did a damn good job on the Tannery episode.

Come on Rick.....it could be your chance to show them white as cotton legs to the world!

If I exposed any part of my ugly @$$ the show would get cancelled. lol I'd be a pitiful example for taxidermists. They really would look like Norman Bates when they got done with me.

I got on that message board once and suggested they do a show with a taxidermist. I really can't believe they haven't already ... over 100 shows, and they forget taxidermy? Definitely a dirty job! I'd love to be on the show. Even though my shop is small, I think I could show them a lot of cool things.  Smiley

Get to it the web site Amy...there are several nominations concerning taxidermy...but it's generally "That'd be a great idea...a Dirty Jobs about taxidermy."  Not many saying "I'd love to show the world MY dirty job!!!"

And if they can make Amy look like Norman Bates...we all have a SERIOUS problem.  Wink

I looked at it once before also and according to someplace on there, they say they have done taxidermy. I'm assuming by that, they mean the skulls, replicas, and tannery, however none of those are exactly "taxidermy". If I could find that part again, I'd post a link.
