George's reply in another thread (Bird Forum, "2nd Job" thread) was a sarcastic response that there were no rocket scientists or brain surgeons in the group....

While MOST of the taxidermists I've run across are extremely smart (regardless of education level), with detailed knowledge rivaling even the most educated/experienced biologists out there....

Are we as "dumb" (lacking formal education) as the media/public thinks we are??

Bachelor's Degree, Elementary Education, Fort Hays State University...

17 years of experience as a classroom teacher, now working as an Education Specialist for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Togiak National Wildlife Refuge.

It will be interesting to see the answers. I think we are a more educated group than a lot of people might think.

Bachelor's degree in Biology with Minor in Organic Chemistry.  I originally went to college for Family Medicine in an accelerated program.  After completing the program I was about to leave for Med School when I realized I was only "going to be a doctor" for my parents' sake.  THEY wanted a son that was a doctor---I wanted nothing to do with it.  Graduated with a BS in Biology and now I play with dead things.....HA!

I have a bachelor's degree in Business and an MBA.
To reiterate what you stated in your original post....brain surgeon or ditch digger - in the world of taxidermy, or art in general, it is truly the God-given abilities that differentiate the good from the rest.  You can't buy it with money or gain it in a classroom.

Could you please allow us to change our votes then PWS?  I clicked High School because that's what I actually completed.  Wink

And you all know what I meant...did 2 years of college before our kid arrived.  Roll Eyes

Dang you're right PWS.  We can't change it.  I thought we could.  That sucks...oh well...not worth worrying about.  Wink  Maybe my saying HS will compensate for some dude who says he did some college, but hasn't...lol  It's all good PWS.  Wink

(can't change that [possibly if I reset vote count to 0...])  We'll be sure to adjust for your "some college".

I started as Civil Engineering, switched to Natural Resources Mgmt (wildlife biology), then quit & went back a few years later.  Graduated with B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in Manufacturing.  Now a computer consultant (stopped going to school to work my friend's startup), duck hunting guide, and taxidermist....  I do whatever job is paying that day!!!

Here's the question for the MBA's:  Are you charging more than $500 for a deer head??   Cheesy

Seriously though, do you subscribe to the methodologies for pricing "luxury" items that they teach in marketing??
