I can't even guess how many ticks I have pulled off of me over the years or how much of my blood they have sucked outta me. I think I'm a magnet for them. Being very new to the taxi field this wasn't even something I thought of even though I have run into them while skinning game many times. Given I'm setting up shop in my garage for awhile it's something I will pay close attention to as my kids are around and I don't want them getting bit.
As far as freezing goes some of you say it works and some say it doesn't. Would freezer temp play a big part in it working. If you turn the temp as low as it will go does that help any I wonder.
For those that use harsh chemicals and such, does it cause any ill effects to the hide and hair of the cape? Or does a simple rinsing gets rid of all the residue?

Wingman has the right idea. I have a old chest freezer that does not work so I take the deer, coyote or what ever antlers and all put it in the old freezer then I take a pale like the one gallon Buckeye Supreme come in and put lacquer thinner in it leave the lid off of the container close old freezer wait and hour ( it works in less than 30 minute but I normally have something else I am working on) when you take it out no ticks, fleas. or anything else living. I have done 6 deer at one time and it works. Also no harmfull chemical on you the lacquer thinner dissipates fast. When not in use you can put lid on pale or just close the freezer and it will not evaporate.

Just returned from the ER having a tick cut out of by left nipple. He was swelled up like a deer turd and they sent him off for testing and put me on the 12 day run of doxy. Hope he was a clean one.

I just squirt them with a little lacquer thinner...does wonders in seconds.
That's what I do also.

Trying to keep my feet on track
Doin' what was expected of me
Kick my shoes off so they can't trace me

Before they all drive me crazy
And I leave 'em all in a bloody mess

Laquer thinner does work good. I normally don't have a lot of time to kill the ticks, so I make sure I skin them outside. I wear rubber gloves and spray my arms and front side down with Off. Works great at keepingf them off me.
