Base for water scene

Hello everyone, i have built a few bases for my waterfowl mounting and i wanted to play around with artificial water and try it out.  I made the bases out of oak and now want to obviously pour in the water, but first do i have to seal the inside first or paint it any special color to make sure you don't see the wood, or do i seal it with something so it wont leak into the wood?  Or just pour it in and go from there?.  Thanks a lot

there can be many variables here.  First, how deep is the water going to be?  Next, is the duck going to be in the water, or maybe on a stump or rock.  Next, do you have tight joints in the woodwork?  Lets just say that the woodwork is nice and tight and no cracks in the joints.  Great, the first thing that I would do is paint everything that will be underwater, Black.  now, there are variables there also, for instance, is it deep or shallow.  Next, for a marsh scene, I would just use envirotex, poured directly on the base 1/4 inch thick.  Add some duck weed, maybe some grasses.  Always fasten any protrusions befor you pour the water. If the duck will be standing in the water, do that first.  As it dries, you can make some ripples.  Now, if you want a deep water scene, then you must use plexiglass first, and then cover with envirotex.  Again, there are many variables , just get it all figured out and do it.

thanks a bunch Mr.T, im going to be doing some marsh scenes some will be in the water, some wont.  you helped a lot and i will post pic's when im all done.
