when using lutan f, is it necesary to oil capes for headmounts

Yes, you always want to oil skins for head mounts

Use Knoblochs---liqua soft or Their para soft oil.

yes it replaces the protein you took out of the hide when you pickled it. BTW i use pro-plus or neets foot oil
if you don't the hide will become very hard and possibly crack after you have mounted it

Try heating up whatever oil you use.  I use an electric burner I purchased at wal-mart for $20.00.  You don't want it boiling but enough to tolerate applying it with your hands.  I'm very happy with the results this produces.   Good Luck!
