The BEST fish of the show.

The compete in their own categories, but BEST FISH can come from any of them.

What does that have to do with anything? Freeze Driers are available for sale to the public, just because you choose not to purchase one shouldn't exclude someone else from entering a piece in the freeze dry category, and should their piece be the best piece at the show, it should win "Best of Show" It shouldn't be discriminated against just because John doesn't own a freeze dry machine.

F Driers are just to costly for everyone to buy one. Its not a choice most people have.    Beside that those that do learn how to use one and have access to them have an advantage others dont. But then you have the garbage in garbage out  factor. Even with bottom of the line f driers at about 10 grand. they have very limited use in the studio.

Like a flashing machine you dont need one to turn out good work.

My belief has always been you dont need a f  drier to turn out good work, there use to be seperate catagoryis for f driers and thats a fact and I believe thats how it should be. I see people lying about their fish all the time claiming they are not f dried and entering them as none f dried when in fact they are f dried.

Why lie about it, just admit it and put it in the correct catagory. Yes Cole some states dont allow f dried in anything but f dried catagories.

That woul dbe like entering a reproduction in the skin mount, seems like thats defined already.

Hell some shows put all the replica fish in the same catagory and even allow so called masters to enter commercial blanks in their masters repro. cat.

Everything should have its place in a seperate catagory they do it with whitetail deer.

Hw do you classify the guys that skin mnt. then freeze-dry to reduce shrinkage? Mike Orthober has won nat. champ. and best in world with this tech. He does all his fish like this. I think each should have its own category, but the best fish at the show wins BOS.

I still say Orthobers fish should go in the freeze dried catagory. Its not a convential mount with either rebuilt parts or plastic parts.

                                       WHO CARES!!!!!
Why all this hoopla about competitions all the time anyway???  I.M.(not so humble) O..they're nothing more than an ego driven bunch of nonsense. They cost money and can easily be slanted. If associations would spend half as much time on REAL public relations instead of stroking egos under the premise that you learn so much...this industry would be MUCH better off. In this day and age you don't need to pay someone to judge your work in order to get better. 40 to 400 hours in a fish mount?? Traveling state to state with your one fish and riding it till the fins fall off? What the hell?Huh

Sorry if I've ruffled feathers and I probably will not be on again to rebut a rebuttal as I'll be out for a week conducting specimen field studies and other related research.

If I'm lucky, I'll come back to a forum that has purged itself of competition talk.......I doubt it though.

First of all the conventions are fun.

Second I have never spent 40 hours on a competition piece.

Third if you hate competitions so much why are you replying to this thread? Grin
