I have tried to mold my hands and cannot get the hang of it. Does someone mold hands to be used again and again. Can you mold me a set of hands? What will you charge? Please let me know. Michelle

Get a big batch of alginate & mold your hand. Pour with a good plastic (careful with polyurethanes & moisture from the alginate), then make a silicone mold of that so you can many pours.... It's not hard, try it again...

It's really only hard if you're doing it alone. Been there, done that. I've only used alginate because I only needed one cast. Research some sort of fast setting rubber. Make a cast of plaster around that. Then you can cast to your hearts content. But ... get someone elses arms to cast. It's impossible (well, difficult) the other way, even with alginate.

Michelle, here is the info you are asking for:
www.polytek.com
Instructions are listed in the catalog or online.
-for the Poly Skin Wax (5 lbs. block)
-Bronze Powder (2 lb. can)
-Casting Urethane (Easy flo 60 from Polytek or IE 3030 from Industrial Polymers will work)
I used Jeff Kuhn's Rigid urethane casting plastic. 717-428-2732
2-pint kit would be plenty.
Also, Remove the hair from your hand and wrist or you will be sorry. The wax will stick when you try to "demold" your hand from the wax mold. Also, if your 1st attempt doesn't work out, just re-melt the wax and try again. Use a little baby oil on your wrist and hand as well.
Build up layers of wax by dipping your hand in the wax , when it cools down to 140-125 deg. , then dip it in a bucket of cold water. build up several layers until it is strong enough to mold with....

This is a picture of the one pull wax mold.
Poly skin wax, for mold, and can of bronze powder required to mix with urethane, for your cast.
If you have to try 2-3 times, before you get a good mold, thats ok. Just re-melt and try again.
You can do it. Then you will have a mount with YOUR hand...which is really cool !....

You could also do a skin safe sililcone. Polytek's PlatSil Gel-10 is a quick setting silicone. Paint on a couple of layers, do a plaster / bandage mother mold in 2 parts, remove plaster, cut (carefully) the silicone and wallah, you have a permenant mold of your hand to make as many castings as you want.

I had seen the wax version done years ago at the state fair. Had forgotten all about it till this thread. Thanks for bringing it up. You guys just gave me an idea for a perfect gift for the wife this Aug for her birthday. Molding the childrens hands and my own.
