Having trouble using a Skife?..........Maybe this will help.Could be your blade is biting too much or not enough.If you are cutting allot of holes then try adjusting the blade so it slices very thin and take your time shaving.Hope this helps......................

Don't clamp down on the skife when you do this.You don't want to trap your blade in.Give a gentle twist as illustrated in this picture to shave thinner.

The only time I cut holes, is when I man handle the thing. Lightly dragging the tool on an angle will cut less than an agressive gouge. It's all in the dexterity, imo.

It takes time to get the proper coordination with a knife to be a good shaver........This works good until you get the hours in and the coordination that comes with experience.I can shave paper thin with just a knife but a newbie can not.Dexterity helps but it doesn't get you there right away.

This is the job that my student done on the deer nose today because of the adjustment.This is the first shaving ever for him..................

I think it's just what you get used to.I use a sawed off base ball bat thats rounded on the end for the eyes,nose and lips and I use it on fish esophagus too............
