Fiberglass Resin
«
on:
June 20, 2008, 03:40:10 PM »
I used potting soil fresh out of the bag, yesterday, and at this time, it is still not dry. I meant to say I used it with mixed fiberglass resin. I'm thinking now the moisture will not let it dry. Is that the case. I was in a big hurry yesterday. Sorry, for your time taken, but I would appreciate someone advising me.Thanks, B W S

I believe you have to greatly increase the amount of hardener if you mix with dirt. Sorry I cant tell you how much.

Dirt must be absolutely dry when mixed with fiberglass resin. I had some once that sat for a week and still never came close to setting. Ended up scraping it off and mixing a new batch with dirt that had been spread out on newspaper and allowed to dry several days.

Thanks to Bill@Hogheaven, and Becky P for your commits. I dried some potting soil and redone the job. Was not that fun, and I will not soon forget. Respectfully, B W S

put the dirt in the oven for a while, it will dry it. be carefull if you add it to the fiberglass while its still warm, it speeds up the process a little

If you are going for the dirt look what I did is took some potting soil and let it dry took out all the big chips and some glue I used a glue that is called tightbond its like Elmer's glue but dries faster that Elmer's and it worked like a charm. I have never used resin to do this so I don't know about this method but what ever woks and the way that I did it worked great and when the dirt drys its hard like concrete and you spray a sealer over it or something that will make it shine if you like it shinny

Elmer glue and peat moss, works great. takes a couple of days to dry. Mix to the consistancy of peanut butter. If you are going to add grass or shrubs, you can put them in the mix once you get it wher you want. I also let it run over the side if you are using plywood as a base.
