I've got a few peices of nice driftwood and was wonderin how or if ya can keep it from fadeing?

im not a 100 percent sure but i think if you hit it up with a ployurthine that it would keep that dark look.  i know when i finish up the wood on the bases that we make, the poly darkens some types of wood and makes them look great.  and it would also seal it.  i use a minwax polyurthine its the one with a black and sliver lable.

I recently picked up a bunch of driftwood after one of our reservoirs flooded.  I use the same minwax polyurethane that Andrew mentioned.  On the pieces I've done so far, it actually darkens the wood and gives it kind of a wet glossy look.  Heres a pic using one of these pieces, it was actually a lighter piece of wood before I finished it.  Hope this helps.

Try to go with a waterbase clear , Using a oil base clear over the years it will get a yellow tint to it .

I use a flat sheen i get at Sherman Williams. It comes in a can .
it will keep the natural color of the wood, but it won't shine too much.
