You need to plan a head when they are in season or store habitat items like that. You might be able to get some corn out of a farm field ( with permission) freeze them and let them set out and dry. I'm guessing if you dig them up and dry them they will maintain some green color for some time. Freezing would duplicate a natural frost that kills a corn stalk that would dry up a and turn brown. The problem might be that the corn is still actively growing so freezing may not work as good as corn that has reached maturity before it freezes. That is just educate guessing from being from a farm

If you treat green cornstalks with clear never say die they will look like they were frost killed & stay pliable for years.

What I've done is, every fall after harvest, go to nearby fields and pull up any stalks in the condition I'm looking for....i.e some stalks may be bent over from combining, some clean cut, and so on...........knock the dirt off without tearing up the stalks as you will be using the elmers/dirt mix when building your base. Corn cobs can be picked up then as well. Unless you are putting together a lifesize deer mount, there is no reason to have full stalks for a goose...........kinda overkill and takes away from the goose/geese. And remember to get a lot of stalks, they can be stored in a tote for later mounts.................

I have been wondering the same
If I pick up some dried stalks this fall after the turn brown from a corn field
will they stay ok
Or do you have to treat them to be used
