Yep, almost all the time I am turning my head to roadkill...especially in the winter..I have only picked up one animal, a HUGE badger that was freshly killed....

I ALWAYS look at road kill.... But unfortunately Calif has a law prohibiting anyone from taking the dead critters no matter if they are in perfect shape and a animal that has no limit no season. Makes no sense to me. I mean a coyote you can shoot anytime... Why let it lay??? I think I should be able to take that if I can use it..
On our way to hunting trips I check out all the regs for each state we pass thru and if its a road kill legal state You can bet your boots my butt will stop every time LOL....Hey you never know when you might luck out and find a great specimen Smiley I picked up a gorgeous red fox in WYoming that had no damage at all Smiley It was lying on the side of the road so yes I did make hubby do a U-turn in the middle of the road with the trailer to go back and get it LOL.. It was worth it!! I got my very first red fox, and its a gorgeous bugger! Cant wait to mount it..

Rae...THAT WAS MY FOX!!!!!  Tongue Kiss

seriously i almost had the biggest road kill today...I did see a red fox but it was still alive and running away from the road...but the big road kill would have been someone's unfortunate COW...that got on the wrong side of the fence and was walking along I-80...man I am glad i didn't hit it...would have torn my big rig up

I always pick up any furbearers in season that look good. Legal in maryland, and I heard they are making it legal in PA if you have a furtaker lisc and the animal is in season, except bobcats. Also I could  get something out of season in MD and the DNR MIGHT give me a permit for it. I would only try that if it was something oddball like an albino fox, or an otter, or a fox pup. Plus there are 2 counties in MD that have fox open year round, so any fox on the road  there year round would be ok without a permit from DNR( like fox pups).

Deer in MD, the DNR will bring you a roadkill tag when you call to tell them you got a roadkill deer you want to keep. It is free, even if its an 18 pt buck. PA charges 10.00 per pt on antlers if a roadkill you want is a buck. PGC -anything to make some money...

ROFLMAO ElkHunter  I warned you I was coming to Wyoming LOL You must have been snmoozing or something  Grin    I dont know what it is about that state but there sure isnt much road kill where we were at.. I think the freaking wind blows them all away LOL...Over past Savory I saw several porcupines but they looked "TOO" dead LOL.. They were as round as beachballs LOL. Missed out on a batch of coons too. The biologist said hed seen some fresh killed in the direction we were going, but when we got to where they were they were like sail coons.. Flat as pancakes.. Could have used them for fresbies..
My FIL is thinking we might see if we can make a trip back to Wyoming just to hunt fox later this winter. Depends on if we can squeeze in another trip. WE are pressed for time now as it is. Our last out of state hunt (so far) is the day after Christmas when we go back to COlorado for elk. SO not too sure if Ill have a chance to hit Wyoming again or not.
I have a special ice chest set aside for my hides and one for road kill LOL>. People should know better then to ask me what is in them LOL....
