hi,

What would be the best way to get a stump ready to use it in your habitat? To get all the bugs out and kill all the living stuff on the outside and inside?

thanks

Kody

Your going to have to get it kiln dried.  Thats about the only way for something that thick to get all them babies out of there.  i dont no if you have a lumber drier in your area or not but i know that bud evans here does it. hes out of crandon wisconsin.  im sure he will be poping on the post here for some advice for you too.  hes a good guy and im sure would take care of the drying for you.  but i would say thats about the only way to do it.  it will also take out most of the moisture thats inside the stump.  it will make it nice and light too.  i had one dried and it lost about 35 pounds of water from it.

i hope that helped you out Kody

You may be able to place it in a bag and fog it, as well. Where are you from?

Hi Kody Bud Evans here  Andrew is right a dry kiln is your best way to sterilize and stablize your stump. be careful when putting it in an oven try to keep it at 170 deg. if the oven goes that low depending on what kind of wood and how wet it is drying it to fast might leave you with two pcs. wood will split if dried to fast. Most of my stumps get 5 to 10 days in the kiln. If you have any questions or any one else feel free to call me 715-478-5722  I also have stumps already dried and debuged if you need one
